Arriving from all over Eastern Europe, the men who loiter around the Gare du Nord train station in Paris are scraping by however they can, forming gangs for support and protection, ever fearful of being caught by the police and deported. When the middle-aged, bourgeois Daniel approaches a boyishly handsome Ukrainian who calls himself Marek for a date, he learns the young man is willing to do anything for some cash. What Daniel intends only as sex-for-hire leads to a home invasion - and then an unexpectedly profound relationship. The drastically different circumstances of the two men's lives reveal hidden facets of the city they share.

In Madrid's bustling streets, two perfect strangers, Caye, a thirty-year-old single woman, and Zulema, an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic, struggle to make ends meet working as prostitutes, of course, unbeknownst to their families. Under those circumstances and by an unforeseen twist of fate, the two rivals will quickly bond, and even though they are worlds apart, Caye and Zulema will soon realise that they have so much in common, and in reality, their coincidental encounter will be the beginning of a friendship.

This documentary ethnofiction was co-written by Nicola Mai and 8 Nigerian women with experiences of migration, sex work and trafficking. Joy is one of several fictional characters embodying their individual and collective experiences. In order to protect their identities these roles are played by non-professional actresses including some of the film’s co-authors.

Mrs. B. worked in a weapons factory in North Korea. Ten years ago, she left her village for China, in order to work there for a few months. But she was sold by traffickers to a Chinese peasant. She has become a smuggler herself and she plans to reunite with her two sons now living in South Korea. Arrested by the police while crossing illegally the Thai border, she is transferred to the South Korean immigration service. Mrs B is now living in Seoul with her two sons. But to finally start a new life with her sons, a new battle begins for her, since she has been accused of spying and trafficking by National Intelligence Service.
